Bike Safety Tips

Schools out and riding bikes is a great way to exercise and explore the neighborhood. Protect children from severe head injury by teaching them to always wear a properly fitted helmet.

  1. Wear a helmet
  2. Find the proper helmet fit. The helmet should meet the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) standards.
  3. Ensure the helmet fits and your child can wear it correctly.

Fit Test

  • Eyes check: Position the helmet on your head. When looking up, you should see the helmet's bottom rim. The rim should be two finger-widths above the eyebrows.
  • Ears check: Make sure the helmet straps form a V under your ears when buckled. The strap should be tight, but comfortable.
  • Mouth check: Open your mouth as wide as you can. Do you feel the helmet hug your head? If not, tighten the straps.
