Biography

While completing my residency in pediatrics, I developed an interest in genetic disorders. I then pursued fellowship training in clinical genetics with a particular interest in dysmorphology at the University of Utah. After serving as a junior faculty member for one year at the University of Utah I joined the faculty at the Medical College of Virginia for two years.  I then relocated to Chattanooga and have been at Children's Hospital at Erlanger since 1991. I am board certified by both the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Medical Genetics. I also am a founding fellow in the American College of Medical Genetics. Other genetics professionals around the United States have elected me one of the “Best Doctors in America” every year since 2005.

While most of my time is spent seeing patients with genetic conditions, I continue to conduct research in the area of clinical genetics. I have published more than 65 scientific articles and book chapters. My long-standing interest in Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome has led me to conduct ongoing research on this condition. As a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, I also have a strong commitment to teaching medical students and residents in training.  I have been the Medical Student Clerkship Director at Erlanger for 25 years.

My husband and I live in Ooltewah and have one son.
